The Senate Autism Committee has been established in order to promote policies and legislation to better assist individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD) and their families.
The Committee is focused on addressing four important issues related to this disorder:
- Children are evaluated and receive treatment at an early age;
- Private health plans do their fair share to provide medically necessary services;
- Access to adequate employment opportunities exist; and,
- The development and expansion of appropriate and affordable housing.
The Senators who comprise this Committee have appointed 12 Autism Regional Taskforces consisting of consumers, families, advocates and autism experts. These Taskforces, which represent some of the foremost leaders in the field of ASD, are working with the Committee to provide recommendations that will improve the outcomes for individuals with ASD, and their families, during the current economic crisis.
The Senate Select Committee on Autism and the Regional Autism Taskforces appreciate your interest and hope that this website is helpful. We welcome your input and recommendations. Together we can bring hope and opportunity to many of our families, friends, and neighbors who are facing the challenges of ASD.
A personal welcome from our Chairman, Senator Darrell Steinberg.
