Employment

JobTIPS:

JobTIPS is a free program designed to help individuals with disabilities such as autism spectrum disorder explore career interests, seek and obtain employment, and successfully maintain employment. From a social skills assessment to resume and interview tips, this site covers all the basics and gives detailed descriptions for every step of the process. This could be a great tool for anyone seeking employment, but it's primary focus on social and behavioral differences that might make identifying, obtaining, and keeping a job more difficult for a person on the Autism spectrum, really makes this a key resource.

Disability.gov:

A federal resource is Disability.gov, a community-driven, interactive website about disability-related programs, services, laws and benefits. A page of their website is dedicated to employment.

A great article from Disability Scoop covers an interview with an employment specialist about the current employment situation for people with disabilities. The article focuses on knowing your strengths and empowerment through working. Along with emphasizing the positives of working for a micro-enterprise, the specialist, Doreen Rosimos, points out that "often if you have a disability, it’s expected that you don’t work. If we expect that as a society, how must a person with a disability view themselves? We have to have expectations."
